JERICHO's VALUES CRITERIA FOR SELECTING ISSUES & BILLS
As a statewide interfaith advocacy organization, JERICHO promotes the social justice values that are rooted in all of the faith traditions. In selecting issues to support or oppose, our legislative mission is inspired and led by these traditions and teachings. The following criteria are key:
Greater voice for those at the margins
JERICHO looks for issues that have potential for involving low-income people in influencing public policies-especially those by which they are directly affected.
Opportunity for systemic change
JERICHO seeks to create a more just society through comprehensive as well as incremental change. We examine the long range impact of bills with an understanding that unintended consequences can make a good idea bad legislation over the long haul.
Stewardship
JERICHO seeks development policies which affect people equitably as well as conserve and enhance the resources and environment of our communities now and in the future.
Improving the lives of the most vulnerable
Each legislative session, JERICHO selects bills that make a difference for single adults, children, and families living in poverty. JERICHO's bill folders reflect a variety of concerns-among them, affordable housing and health care, income security, and the plight of immigrants.
